Creative Roma® Pasta Ideas

Our Piancone® and Roma® pastas make excellent Italian entrée items, but they also are versatile enough to be featured on the breakfast menu. They're already in your freezers as a menu staple, so go ahead and get creative to make them into a featured menu item!

 

Gnocchi is replacing potatoes in breakfast hashes, skillet sensations, and as innovative croutons.

Idea #1

Simmer gnocchi until it reaches the surface, and then drain. In a skillet or griddle, heat a mixture of olive oil and butter. Add the drained gnocchi, along with diced pancetta, peppers, onions, salt, and pepper. Cook until gnocchi is crispy, and peppers and onions are tender. Top the dish with poached eggs and a drizzle of hollandaise sauce.

Idea #2

Simmer gnocchi until it reaches the surface, and then drain. In a skillet or griddle, heat a mixture of olive oil and butter.  Add the drained gnocchi, along with arugula, shiitake mushrooms (stems discarded; sliced), salt, and pepper. Cook until gnocchi and arugula are crispy and umami from the mushrooms is absorbed into the gnocchi. Top the hash with poached eggs and garnish with fresh arugula. 

Idea #3

Simmer gnocchi until it reaches the surface, and then drain. In a skillet or griddle, heat a mixture of olive oil, butter, and garlic. Heat until fragrant, and then add gnocchi and cook until crisp. Let cool slightly and use as substitute to croutons on top of your favorite Caesar salad.

Idea # 4

Italian nachos is such a simple dish to roll out as a new appetizer! Let frozen pasta sheets thaw enough to cut with a pizza cutter. Next, slice into strips or triangles and deep fry in 350°F until desired crispness (around a minute). Remove from fryer and sprinkle with a mix of salt, Bacio® cheese, garlic, and parsley. Serve with an alfredo sauce or marinara.
