A talented and hard-working man from Jalisco, Mexico, German Guzman arrived in the United States at the age of 15 in search of a better future for himself and his family. He began his journey as a dishwasher in multiple restaurants, learning every aspect of back-of-house operations. From the start, he dreamed of one day opening his own restaurant.

While working in several Mexican restaurants, he began developing his mother’s treasured recipes, and he decided to bring not just another Mexican restaurant to Tennessee, but one of the first truly authentic Mexican dining experiences to the state. His dedication paid off five years ago, when he opened Mexico Tipico in Murfreesboro, Tenn. It only took a few months for guests to fall in love with Maria Luisa’s (his mother’s) recipes. With his unique blend of secret ingredients and warm hospitality, word spread quickly, and soon he opened a second location in Nashville, and he will be opening more the next year.

German, his wife Flor and his 3 kids, are the perfect recipe of tenacity and love in the pursuit of their dreams, proving that with hard work and heart — dreams can turn into reality.
