When the end of summer rolls around, most parents and kids have one thing on the mind—heading back to school.

The kids may be grumbling while the parents revel in some hard-earned “me” time, but there’s no reason why you can’t include some specials on your menu that will please both sets of Back to School-ers. Here are a few great ways that you can highlight the busy season—allow yourself to get creative!

School Spirit Night

Offer a small discount (10%) for customers who come in wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt from the local school. Run this promotion on the night of a football or basketball game to capture the pre- and post-game family dining business.

Kids Eat Free

Choose a slow night of the week (Monday or Tuesday) to offer for kids to eat free with the purchase of an adult entrée. Most kids’ meals cost are a lower investment, so tacking it on for free shouldn’t affect your bottom line, and you will draw in plenty of customers when they hear the word “free!”

Kids Free Dessert

On a busier evening (Thursday or Sunday) offer a free scoop of ice cream or slice of cake for kids with the purchase of a kid’s meal. Again we are talking pennies in investment to draw traffic through the door.

Fundraiser Nights

Get involved with the local school and booster organizations. Offer to give 5% of sales on a given night as a fundraiser. Get the team or group to show up in uniform and invite their friends, family and co-workers. Run this promotion on a slow night like a Tuesday or Wednesday.
